How do I upload documents from my computer?
Updated 5 Oct 2026 · 3 min read
The quickest way to get papers you already have on your computer into ViamOne is to upload them at viamone.com. You can pick one file or several at once, and each one becomes its own document in your vault.
Once a file is uploaded, ViamOne reads it to pick out what it is, whose it is and the dates that matter. See What does ViamOne pick out of a document?.
Upload from the Vault
- Sign in at viamone.com.
- In the left menu, under Vault, click Files. To upload into a particular folder, click Folders and open that folder first.
- Click Upload at the top right of the page.
- Choose one or more files on your computer and confirm.
If you're inside a folder when you click Upload, the files go straight into that folder.
Upload from Home
- On Home, click the + at the top of the page.
- Click Upload a document.
- Choose one or more files and confirm.
Follow the upload
A card in the bottom right corner shows each file as it uploads. When everything is in, it says how many files were added to the vault and, if they wait for your plan's reading schedule, when they'll be read.
From the card you can click Open file (or Open folder / Open Files when you uploaded several), or Upload more. If a file fails, its reason shows under its name, with Retry next to it.
If the file is already there
If a file with the same name is already in that folder, ViamOne asks what to do:
- Replace existing file puts the new upload in place of the old one.
- Keep both saves the new one with a number added to its name.
- Skip this file leaves the folder as it was.
If the exact same file is already somewhere else in your vault, it still uploads, and the card shows "Possible duplicate of" with the other file's name.
Security: On a shared or public computer, sign out when you're done. Click your picture at the top of the page and choose Sign out.
What you can upload
- PDFs
- Word files
- Excel files
- Photos and images: JPG, PNG, WebP and TIFF
- Text files and saved emails
Each file can be up to 10 MB.
Note: Files you upload into a private folder are stored and can be previewed, but ViamOne never reads them. See What is the private folder?.
Didn't work?
It says the file type isn't supported
The file isn't one of the types listed above. iPhone photos saved as HEIC are a common example. Save or export the file as a PDF or JPG and upload that instead.
It says the file is over 10 MB
Each file can be up to 10 MB. Split a long PDF into smaller parts, or save photos at a lower resolution, then upload again.
It says I've reached my document limit
Each plan holds a set number of documents. Move documents you no longer need to Trash, or move to a bigger plan. See What does each ViamOne plan include? and How do I change or cancel my plan?.
I don't see the Upload button
People with view-only access can't upload. Ask the vault owner or an admin to change your membership.
