How do I build my family tree?

The family tree shows everyone in your vault by generation: grandparents, parents, you and your partner, children and grandchildren. It helps ViamOne understand who is who, so its answers and reminders are about the right person.
Each card shows the details every member may see, like date of birth, phone and email.
Security: Private details on a card, such as IDs and insurance, stay folded until you choose to show them. Only the person, the vault owner or whoever added them can open them.
Open the tree
- Sign in at viamone.com.
- In the left menu, under Family, click People.
- At the top, switch from Vault to Family tree.
- Use Everyone, Members or Dependents to filter, and Fit to see the whole tree at once.
- Open the ViamOne app and tap More.
- Under Your family, tap People.
- Tap Family tree at the top.
- Tap a card to see the person's details.
Add missing people
Dashed cards show gaps the tree has noticed, such as Add a child or an add card for a partner or parent. Click or tap one to add that person as a dependent, with the relationship already chosen. See How do I add family members and dependents?.
People you've invited show as dashed cards marked invite sent until they join.
Put someone in the right place
If someone sits in the wrong row, tell ViamOne how they're related.
- On their card, click ⋮ (Change relationship).
- Under Relationship to, choose the word that fits, such as Mother or Son.
- Choose their Partner and up to two Parents, if you know them.
- Click Save.
- Press and hold their card, or tap its ⋮.
- Choose the relationship, then their Partner and up to two Parents if you know them.
- Tap Save.
Leave partner and parents blank to place someone from the relationship alone. The vault owner anchors the tree, so for the owner you only set a partner and parents.
Note: Only the vault owner or an admin can change relationships.
Tell ViamOne who people in your documents are
Below the tree, People in your documents lists names ViamOne found while reading, like doctors, landlords or witnesses. It never guesses who they are.
- Click or tap Who is this? next to a name.
- Choose In the vault, Family, A contact or Not a person.
- Pick who they are or what role they have, then Save.
Once you answer, every advisor knows. You can change the answer later.
Tip: Home may ask you questions like "looks like the same person as…". Answering Yes, same person joins two cards into one.
Didn't work?
It says "Owners and admins only"
Changing relationships rewrites the tree for the whole family, so only the owner or an admin can do it. Ask them to make the change.
Someone appears twice
ViamOne may have found the same person under two spellings. Watch for the question on Home and answer Yes, same person. Or use Who is this? and choose In the vault to link the name to the right person.
A child shows in the wrong family
Set the child's two Parents using the steps above. Children are placed under their parents.
