How do I add family members and dependents?

There are two ways someone can be part of your vault:

Members sign in with their own account. You invite them by email. See How do I invite someone to my vault, and what can they do?.
Dependents don't sign in. They're people whose documents you look after, like a child or an elderly parent.

A dependent's passports, policies and cards get the same care as yours. ViamOne matches documents to them by name, and they're covered on Emergency too. Dependents don't use a member seat on your plan.

Security: A dependent can't sign in, so adding one never gives anyone access to your vault. Only people you invite get their own sign-in.

Add a dependent

Sign in at viamone.com.
In the left menu, under Family, click People.
Click Add dependent at the top right. On a smaller window it shows as + only.
Type their Full name and choose a Relationship, such as Son, Mother or Partner.
If you like, add their Date of birth, Sex, email, phone and address. Leave the address empty to use yours.
Click Add.

Picking a word like Mother or Son also sets whether they're a man or a woman. That helps ViamOne answer questions like "who is my father?" correctly.

Tip: A date of birth is worth adding. It powers age-based reminders.

Edit a dependent

On People, switch to Family tree.
Click the person's card to open their details on the right.
Click More, then Edit details. Make your changes and click Save.

Remove a dependent

Open the person's card in Family tree. On the web, click More, then Remove dependent. On the phone, tap Remove from the family.

Their documents stay in the vault. They just won't be matched to a person any more.

Note: Only the person who added a dependent can edit their details or remove them.

Didn't work?

It says the person is already in your family

ViamOne found someone with a very similar name. If it really is a different person, choose Add anyway. If it's the same person, there's no need to add them again.

It won't accept the name

Names need at least two characters and can only use letters, spaces, hyphens, apostrophes and full stops. Leave out numbers and symbols.

I can't see Edit details for someone

They were added by someone else in the vault, or they're a member with their own login. Ask whoever added them, or ask the member to update their own profile.

Some documents aren't matched to anyone

Add the person named on them as a dependent. Their documents are picked up the next time ViamOne checks. See How do I build my family tree?.
