Why isn't Google Drive or Dropbox syncing?

Updated 5 Oct 2026 · 3 min read

When Google Drive or Dropbox is connected, ViamOne copies the documents you keep there into your vault. If new files aren't showing up, work through the checks below. Most problems are fixed with Sync now or by connecting again.

Check the connection

  1. Sign in at viamone.com and click Settings in the left menu.
  2. Click the Connected apps tab.
  3. Look at the card for Google Drive or Dropbox.

A working card shows how many files have come in, then Live (Google Drive) or the date of the last sync, and All files or the number of folders you chose. A red line with an error means syncing has stopped.

Sync now

Click or tap Sync now on the card. ViamOne checks the account straight away, and new documents appear in your vault shortly.

Note: Right after you first connect, press Sync now once to bring in the files already there.

After that, new files usually come in on their own. Copied documents then wait for your plan's reading schedule before their details appear. See When will my document be read?.

If there's an error, connect again

When a sync fails, automatic syncing pauses until a sync works again. Try Sync now. If the error comes back, ViamOne has probably lost access, for example after a password change or if access was removed in your Google or Dropbox account.

  1. On the web, under Settings › Connected apps, click Disconnect on the card.
  2. Click Connect Google Drive or Connect Dropbox and allow access.
  3. Click Sync now.

Documents already in your vault stay there, and they won't be copied twice. Connecting can only be done on the web.

Security: If you no longer want ViamOne to see an account, click Disconnect and copying stops. ViamOne can't change or delete anything in your Drive or Dropbox.

Check what's being synced

  • Folders: on the web, click Choose folders on the card. With Specific folders, only those folders and the folders inside them are copied.
  • File types: PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, text and CSV files, and JPG and PNG photos are copied, plus Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Other types, such as some older Word files or HEIC photos, are skipped.
  • Google Drive trash: files in Drive's trash aren't copied.

Didn't work?

I changed a file in Drive, but the vault still has the old version

Each file is copied once. Later changes to it aren't picked up. Upload the new version yourself: How do I upload documents from my computer?.

I deleted a file in Drive or Dropbox, but it's still in my vault

Syncing only adds files. Delete it in ViamOne as well. See How do I delete or restore a document?.

A document I deleted in ViamOne came back

If the file is still in a folder you sync, it can come back after it's been permanently deleted. Remove it from that folder too, or leave that folder out under Choose folders.

My files arrived but show no details

They're waiting to be read on your plan's schedule. If one seems stuck, see Why is my document stuck or not read?.
